Building Strong Foundations for Lifelong Learning
At Greenview Nursery, our Early Years provision is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, an essential foundation for children’s learning, development, and wellbeing from birth to age five. This framework helps us create a nurturing, secure, and stimulating environment where every child can explore, grow, and thrive at their own pace. Through play-based learning and strong relationships with key staff, we support each child to develop the skills, confidence, and curiosity they need for a successful transition to school and beyond.

A Nurturing Start with a Key Person Approach
At Greenview Nursery, we believe that children settle best when they have a key person to connect with—someone who knows them and their parents well, and who can meet their individual needs.
Research shows that this approach benefits everyone:
- Children develop secure, trusting relationships and thrive
- Parents feel confident and reassured
- Staff become more committed and engaged
- The nursery becomes a happier, more supportive place to learn and work
Helping Children Feel Safe, Stimulated, & Happy
Our aim is for every child to feel:
- Safe and secure
- Stimulated and engaged
- Happy and comfortable with staff
We also want parents to feel confident in both their child’s wellbeing and their role as active partners in their child’s learning journey.
A Thoughtful Approach to Settling In
We make our nursery a welcoming and inclusive environment, where each child can settle quickly and comfortably.
By giving careful consideration to every child’s individual needs and background, we make sure their transition into nursery life is smooth and reassuring.
The Role of the Key Person
In line with the Safeguarding and Welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, every child at Greenview is assigned a dedicated key person.
This key person:
- Becomes the child’s primary carer in our setting
- Builds strong relationships with the child, their family, and the wider team
- Is responsible for the child’s emotional security, daily routines, and progress
- Encourages friendships within their key group by spending time with them daily
Personalised Support from Day One
Your child’s key person is responsible for:
- Welcoming your family into the setting
- Settling your child in a gentle, responsive way
- Offering unconditional regard and support
- Planning and delivering a personalised plan for care, wellbeing, and learning
- Acting as a consistent, non-judgmental presence
If a child bonds better with another team member during the settling-in period, we adapt to suit that child's individual needs—flexibility is key to getting it right.
Communication and Collaboration with Families
The key person serves as the main point of contact for parents, and they also:
- Coordinate with other carers like childminders or other nurseries
- Share important information about the child’s development and learning
- Keep developmental records up to date, reflecting the child’s progress both at home and at nursery
- Ensure that parents are always informed and involved in their child’s learning journey
Support from a Key Person Buddy
To maintain continuity of care, every child also has a key person buddy.
This team member steps in to support your child in the absence of their key person, ensuring consistent relationships and emotional security at all times.
